Axxam and AXXSense at ECRO 2025 in Bilbao

The European Chemoreception Research Organization (ECRO) 2025 conference will take place on 15–18 September 2025 in Bilbao, Spain, at the Bizkaia Aretoa congress centre.
Axxam and our business platform AXXSense will join the international chemosensory community to discuss new approaches in taste and smell research.

Our team will present a poster on the identification of novel TAS2R4 agonists by screening a natural compound library, highlighting how we use cellular assays and high-throughput screening to support innovation for food, beverage, pet food, cosmetic and fragrance applications.

About ECRO 2025

ECRO is the European reference meeting for chemosensory science, bringing together researchers working on taste, smell and related sensory modalities in vertebrates and invertebrates.

The ECRO 2025 edition will be hosted in Bilbao and organized in collaboration with the Spanish Olfactory Network (ROE), with a programme that covers:

  • Fundamental mechanisms of olfaction and taste
  • Chemosensory receptors and signalling pathways
  • Sensory perception, behaviour and cognition
  • Applied research for nutrition, health and consumer products

Our contribution: novel TAS2R4 agonists from natural compounds

At ECRO 2025, the AXXSense team will present the poster:

“Identification of novel TAS2R4 agonists by screening of a natural compound library.”

In this work, we:

  • Used a cell-based assay to selectively measure TAS2R4 activation
  • Screened a diverse natural compound library to identify new bitter tastants
  • Characterized dose-response relationships and potency of the most promising hits
  • Generated structure–activity relationship hypotheses to guide follow-up optimization

These results illustrate how a combination of specialized receptor assays, high-throughput screening and data-driven analysis can accelerate the discovery of taste modulators for product formulation and consumer experience.

Meet the Axxam & AXXSense team in Bilbao

Our team will be available throughout the meeting to:

  • Discuss TAS2R4 and other bitter taste receptor projects
  • Explore collaborations in taste and olfactory receptor assays
  • Share how Axxam and AXXSense support assay development, screening, hit discovery,  and ingredient characterization

If you would like to arrange a dedicated meeting slot during ECRO 2025, you can schedule a call with our team in advance.
